Working with Children & Volunteering

Parents and volunteers are encouraged to support St. John’s Primary School and our students by volunteering their time to help in classrooms, school events, excursions, canteen and various other times as invited by the school.  In 2008, new State Legislation required volunteers working with children in Victoria to have a current Working with Children Check (WWWC).

If you would like to volunteer your time at St. John’s Primary School for any purpose/event, you will need a current Working with Children Check (WWCC), this is Victorian Government legislation.

Roundabout Construction

Works have commenced on the construction of the new roundabout at the intersection of Russell Street and Coghlans Road. Please be advised that disruptions will occur due to the traffic management controls required for the works.

Part of these works will require road closures, including the following:
Coghlans Road - between Harrington Road and O’Malley Drive
Russell Street - between St John’s Primary School and Shannon Road

It’s expected the closures will be in place between Monday 23rd September and Friday 18th October 2024. There will be detours in place.

Wellbeing

This year R U OK?Day falls on Thursday 12th September, an annual National Day of Action and a reminder that every day is the day to check in with your friends, family and colleagues.

R U OK? contributes to suicide prevention year round by urging people to invest time in personal relationships and empowering informal support networks to identify signs of distress. Families are encouraged to engage in this initiative, emphasising the importance of authentic human connections and reminding everyone to ask the essential question, "Are you OK?"

People like Rachael and Matthew Buck, who have provided respite and emergency care to over 100 children and young people.

Family Photo Fundraiser

Thank you to everyone that has supported this fundraiser.

This Sunday 15th September is our Koroit session, hopefully the weather will be kind. If you made a booking you should have received an email with your booking confirmation.

Session 2 on 7th September 2024 at Warrnambool Botanical Garden seems to have gone really well. Previews shouldn't be to far away.

Wednesday Treats Roster

Roster

Tuesday 10th September - Taliah, Jo C, Melissa C, Hannah and Rebecca B

Wednesday 11th September - Emily, Shelley F and Estee S

Order forms for next week will head home on a Wednesday this term. Please make sure all EFT payments and order forms are handed in by 3pm Monday as we can not accept late orders.

Just a friendly reminder if you're paying via EFT please make sure you make payment on time. We are finding more and more families not paying this term which then makes it  awkward for Taliah and myself to chase up the missing payments.

We thank you for your ongoing support.

Should you have any questions please feel free to contact Taliah Gleeson or Emily McGennan.

Cake Raffle

Each week on a Monday, families are rostered on to bring in a cake which will then be raffled and drawn out at assembly. All funds raised throughout the year will be donated to the Good Friday Appeal the following year.

All students will have the opportunity to buy a raffle ticket for 20c next Wednesday with a limit of five tickets per student. The Johnnies will make a P.A announcement at first lunch, calling all students who wish to purchase a ticket, to the Library.

The following families are rostered on for Wednesday 18th September:

Quarrell, Raitt, Ridley and Romanes.

Please drop your store purchased cake into the office with your child's name written on top.
